When one thinks of a Adirondack Great Camp a vision of a rustic structure made from local timber and stone comes to mind.  The Adirondack Style was made famous by industrialists and financiers  from the end of the Civil War to the beginning of the Great Depression and dotted the Adirondacks on large expanses of land.

The birthplace of the "Great Camp" is Raquette Lake, NY where W.W. Durant built the first "Great Camp" in the Adirondacks.  View the original "Great Camp" and learn its history, tour a virtual slide show of  Raquette Lake "Great Camps", join us by the campfire for some fireside recipes, visit our Adirondack Great Camp Store, find a lodging, and please don't forget to sign our guestbook.

Have fun at "GreatCamps.com"! and enjoy the Adirondacks!

Please come back soon there's more on the way.
